In the art and fashion worlds, many a project begins with a fabulous party. In the case of “Supermodels of the ’70s and ’80s,” the photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’s new exhibition at Steven Kasher Gallery in Chelsea, it was a party thrown by the hairstylist Harry King. “The room was full of all these fabulous women,” the photographer says, “and it seemed an obvious opportunity.”

When the two men conceived of “The Black List: Volume One,” Barack Obama hadn’t yet declared his intention to run for president. By the time the film debuted on HBO last August, Obama’s campaign was well under way.
Now, “The Black List: Volume Two” is premiering on HBO tonight, and the concept of a film celebrating the African-American experience takes on new currency.
LENS CRAFTER: Photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders almost skipped the September Seventies and Eighties fashion reunion hosted by his friend, British hairstylist Harry King. But it was there that Greenfield-Sanders found the idea for his next project.
